New York Magazine: Building farms in the Big Apple

A Columbia University professor says converting skyscrapers into farms can help fight global warming.

  • When people think of urban farming, images of community gardens in plots where abandoned homes and businesses were razed usually come to mind. But one Columbia University professor is studying how skyscrapers could be used to house farms, an idea he's been developing for six years, according to an article in New York Magazine.

    Dr. Dickson Despommier believes this idea could help fight global warming -- forests could once again take the place of farmland.
